Desowen Ointment is a steroid that helps reduce inflammation in the body. It treats inflammation and itching caused by eczema or skin conditions that respond to steroid medication.

Use Desowen Ointment only on the skin. Follow the doctor's directions.

• Wash your hands. Before applying the medication, clean and dry the affected area.
• Apply a thin film of the medication to the affected area and gently rub it in, usually 2-3 times daily or as directed by your doctor.
• Do not bandage, wrap, or cover the area unless you are instructed to do so by your doctor.
• If used in the diaper area on an infant, do not use tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants.
  If you get this medication in your eyes, nose, or mouth, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
• Use this medication only for the condition prescribed.
• Tell your doctor if your condition lasts or gets worse after two weeks.

Before taking Desowen Ointment, tell your doctor if you have ever had:

• If you are allergic to it,
• Skin infection;
• Diabetes,
• A skin reaction to any steroid medicine,
• If you are pregnant,
• It may not be safe to breastfeed while using this medicine. Ask your doctor about any risks. If you apply Desowen to your chest, avoid areas that may come into contact with the baby's mouth.
• Do not give this medicine to a child without medical advice.
• Children can absorb larger amounts of this medicine through the skin and may be more likely to have side effects.

Desowen Ointment may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

• stinging, burning, irritation, peeling, dryness, and redness of the skin
• itching
• acne
• tiny red bumps or rash around the mouth
• small white or red bumps on the skin
• change in skin color

Some side effects can be serious. The following symptoms are uncommon, but if you experience any of them, call your doctor immediately:

• redness, swelling, oozing pus or other signs of skin infection in the place where you applied
• severe rash

Children who use desonide may have an increased risk of side effects, including slowed growth and delayed weight gain. Talk to your child's doctor about the risks of applying this medication to your child's skin.

Desowen may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.

What happens if you miss a dose of Desowen Ointment?

Apply the Desowen Ointment as soon as possible, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not apply two doses at one time.

What happens if you overdose on Deswowen Ointment?

High doses or long-term use of DesOwen can lead to thinning skin, easy bruising, changes in body fat, increased acne or facial hair, menstrual problems, impotence, or loss of interest in sex.

What should you avoid while using Deswowen Ointment?

Avoid getting Deswowen in your eyes, nose, or mouth.

Do not use Deswowen Ointment to treat any skin condition your doctor has not checked.
