Temovate Ointment is a topical medication containing clobetasol which is used to treat plaque psoriasis, skin rashes or skin irritation. Clobetasol is a very highly-potent corticosteroid that helps by reducing swelling, itching and redness.

Make sure to always read the patient information and instructions before using this medication. Always follow your doctor’s directions.

• Apply Temovate Ointment to your skin. Do not apply it to your face, groin or underarms.
• Wash and dry your hands and the affected area before application.
• Apply a thin layer of medication to the affected area and rub it in gently.
• Do not bandage, wrap or cover the area unless directed to do so.
• Wash your hands after applying the medication, unless you are using Temovate for the hands.
• Temovate Ointment is not usually used for more than two weeks in a row. Follow your doctor’s directions.
• Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• About your drug and other allergies.
• If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications.
• Your medical history particularly of poor blood circulation, immune system problems and skin conditions.
• If you have thinning skin or an infection on the affected area.
• If you are pregnant or planning on pregnancy.

You should also know:

• If you are breast-feeding, this medication should not be applied to the nipple or the surrounding area.
• This medication may affect growth in children and teens.

Common side effects of Temovate include but are not limited to:

• Burning, stinging, redness or dry skin where applied.

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of Temovate:

• Skin changes including stretch marks, hair growth, pimples or slow healing.
• Thinning of the skin.
• Eye pain, eye irritation or vision changes.
• Symptoms of a weak adrenal gland including severe upset stomach, vomiting, dizziness, fainting, tiredness, mood changes, weight loss, loss of appetite or muscle weakness.
• Cushing’s disease symptoms including moon face, severe headache, slow healing or weight gain in the upper back or belly.
• Symptoms of high blood sugar including confusion, tiredness, hunger, flushing, fast breathing, fruity breath odour or increased thirst or urination.
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives or swelling in your face, lips or throat.
