Vectical Ointment is a vitamin D. Some studies suggest that vitamin D can help calm down your immune system to lessen inflammation and slow down the rate of skin cell production. Vectical treats mild to moderate plaque psoriasis (a skin disease in which red, scaly patches form on some body areas) in adults and children two years of age and older. 

• Use Vectical Ointment on the skin only. Wash the affected area and pat dry.
• Apply a thin layer of medication as directed by your doctor, usually twice daily (once in the morning and once in the evening). Apply only to the areas of skin affected by psoriasis. Gently rub in. Wash your hands after using unless you are using this medication to treat the hands. 
• Do not cover, bandage, or wrap the area unless directed to do so by your doctor. Do not apply to more than one-third of your body.
• Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same times each day.
• Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens. You should usually see an improvement in your skin condition after four weeks of treatment.

Before using Vectical Ointment, tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• If you are allergic to calcitriol, other medications, or any ingredients
• Other prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking
• Be sure to mention calcium supplements, vitamin D supplements, or thiazide diuretics ('water pills')
• If you have or have ever had kidney stones or any condition that affects the calcium level in your blood,
• If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If breastfeeding while using Vectical Ointment, do not apply it directly to the nipple and areola.

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Vectical ointment: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using Vectical ointment and call your doctor at once if you have the following:

• Blistering, or severe redness, itching, or other irritation of treated areas; or
• Worsened symptoms or no improvement in psoriasis

Using Vectical can affect your body's ability to metabolize calcium. Tell your doctor right away if you have symptoms of high levels of calcium in your blood (hypercalcemia), including:

• Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation;
• Increased thirst or urination;
• Lack of energy, feeling tired;
• Muscle weakness;
• Confusion; or
• Bone pain.

Common Vectical Ointment side effects may include:

• Calcium in your urine;
• Itching; or
• Abnormal lab tests.

What should you avoid while using Vectical Ointment?

Vectical Ointment could make your skin more sensitive to the harmful effects of the sun. Avoid sunlight or tanning beds. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen when you are outdoors.

How much calcium does the Vectical Ointment raise in your body?

Vectical Ointment may rarely increase calcium in your blood. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these symptoms of high calcium occur: unusual tiredness, mental/mood changes, unexplained constipation, pink/bloody urine, or painful urination.
