Adcirca, also known as tadalafil, is a medication used to treat high blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary hypertension). This medication works by relaxing the blood vessels in the lungs, which makes it easier for blood to flow to the lungs. If the blood pressure is decreased in the lungs,then the heart and lungs do not have to work as hard and your ability to exercise is increased.

Make sure to always read the patient information and instructions before using this medication. Always follow your doctor’s directions.

• Take this medication by mouth, with or without food
• Adcirca is typically taken once a day
• Take this drug regularly to get the most benefit from it
• Take it at the same time each day
• Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any prescription drugs or herbal products

Tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• About your drug and other allergies.
• If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications.
• Your medical history, especially if you have experienced a heart attack, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, high or low blood pressure, dehydration, penis conditions, history of prolonged erections, sickle cell anemia, leukemia, eye problems, active stomach ulcers, or other lung conditions.

This drug may make you dizzy, so your doctor may recommend limiting your consumption of alcoholic beverages and cannabis.

It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. This drug can be taken during pregnancy when it is clearly needed. Discuss with your doctor if this drug is right for you while you are breastfeeding or planning to become pregnant.

Common side effects of Adcirca include but are not limited to:

• Dizziness
• Lightheadedness
• Headache
• Muscle pain
• Stuffy nose
• Stomach upset
• Nausea

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of tadalafil:

• Sudden decreased vision(including permanent blindness in one or both eyes)
• Sudden decrease or loss of hearing or ringing in the ears
• Prolonged erection lasting 4 or more hours
• Shortness of breath or trouble breathing

Do any drugs interact with Adcirca?

Tadalafil can cause a drop in blood pressure when used with nitrates. Do not use this drug with any drugs used to treat chest pain (nitroglycerin) and recreational drugs that contain amyl or butyl nitrite. Alpha blocker medications used to treat an enlarged prostate may cause your blood pressure to get too low. Do not take this drug with any other drug that contains tadalafil or medications for erectile dysfunction. Always discuss all the medications you take with your doctor before starting Adcirca.
