Betagan Eye drops treat lower pressure inside the eye caused by open-angle glaucoma or ocular (eye) hypertension. This medicine is a beta-blocker and is available only with your doctor's prescription.

Follow the directions for Betagan Eye Drops on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. To instill Betagan Eye Drops, follow these steps:

• Check the dropper tip to ensure it is not chipped or cracked.
• Avoid touching the dropper tip against your eye or anything else; eye drops and droppers must be kept clean.
• While tilting your head back, pull down the lower lid of your eye with a finger to form a pocket.
• Hold the dropper close to the eye as possible without touching it.
• While looking up, gently squeeze the dropper so that a single drop falls into the pocket made by the lower eyelid. Remove your finger from the lower eyelid.
• Close your eye for 2 to 3 minutes and tip your head down as though looking at the floor. Try not to blink or squeeze your eyelids.
• Place a finger on the tear duct and apply gentle pressure.
• Replace and tighten the cap on the dropper bottle. Do not wipe or rinse the dropper tip.
  
  

Before taking Betagan Eye Drops, tell your doctor if you have ever had:

• bronchitis or emphysema;
• heart problems;
• Raynaud's syndrome;
• diabetes;
• a thyroid disorder, or
• a myasthenia gravis,
• If you are allergic to Betagan other beta-blockers, sulfites, or other drugs,
• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding,
• If you are using another topical eye medication, instill it at least 10 minutes before or after you instill Betagan Eye Drops.

Betagan Eye Drops may cause some unwanted effects along with its needed effects. Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

• Burning or stinging in the eye
• drainage from the eye
• redness, swelling, or itching of the eye and eyelid

Less common

• Blurred vision
• chest pain or discomfort
• confusion
• dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
• slow or irregular heartbeat
• sweating
• unusual tiredness or weakness

Betagan Eye drops treat high pressure inside the eye due to glaucoma (open-angle type) or other eye diseases (such as ocular hypertension).

Can Betagan Eye Drops cure glaucoma?

While there is no cure for glaucoma, Betagan Eye Drops control glaucoma. Continue to use Betagan Eye Drops even if you feel well.
