Climara is a skin patch medication that contains estradiol. Estradiol is estrogen which is a female sex hormone produced by the ovaries and necessary for many body processes. Climara patches are used to treat menopausal symptoms including hot flashes and vaginal burning, dryness and itching. Climara may also be prescribed to prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis and to treat ovarian disorders.

Make sure to always read the patient information and instructions before using this medication. Always follow your doctor’s directions.

  • Climara patches should be applied to clean and dry areas of your lower stomach or buttocks. Hold down the patch for approximately ten seconds.
  • Do not apply Climara to your breasts or to skin which is oily, irritated, broken or may easily be rubbed off.
  • This medication patch is typically worn for one week and then replaced. Always follow your doctor’s directions.
  • Always apply a new patch to a different area and wait at least a week before applying a patch to the same area.
  • If a Climara patch falls off, re-apply it to a different area. If it doesn’t stick completely, apply a new patch and wear it for the rest of the seven-day period before applying a new patch.
