What is Cutivate Ointment?

Cutivate Ointment is a prescription medication that is used to treat itching and ointment caused by eczema or skin conditions that can be treated with steroid medications. Cutivate Ointment contains the potent corticosteroid fluticasone and works by reducing inflammation in the body.

Make sure to always read the patient information and instructions before using this medication. Always follow your doctor’s directions.

  • Wash your hands before and after using Cutivate Ointment, unless using the medication to treat your hands.
  • Apply a thin layer of ointment to the skin and gently rub it in.
  • Cutivate Ointment should only be used for a short time until your skin condition improves.
  • Do not cover the affected area with bandages or similar.
  • Do not apply Cutivate Ointment to a large area of skin unless directed by your doctor.
  • Do not apply this medication to the face, scalp, underarms, groin or any areas of thinning skin.
  • Rinse with water if this medication gets into your eyes, mouth or vagina.
  • Speak to your doctor if your condition does not improve within 2 weeks of treatment.

  • About your drug and other allergies.
  • If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications.
  • Your medical history particularly of skin infections, diabetes, liver disease or adrenal gland disorders.
  • If you are pregnant or planning pregnancy.
  • If you are breast-feeding. Avoid applying Cutivate Ointment to any areas that may come into contact with a nursing infant’s mouth.

You should also know:

  • Cutivate Ointment should not be used by anyone younger than 18.

Common side effects of Cutivate Ointment include but are not limited to:

  • Skin itching, rashes, redness, stinging, or burning where applied
  • Lightheadedness
  • Increased hair growth

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of fluticasone:

  • Severe skin irritation
  • Any wound that does not heal
  • skin pain, tenderness or swelling
  • Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling in your face, lips, or throat


What should I do if I miss a dose of Cutivate Ointment?

If you miss a dose of Cutivate Ointment, you should apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.
