Daliresp (roflumilast) is a medication used to control symptoms caused by lung diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchitis. Roflumilast helps prevent symptoms of wheezing and shortness of breath. This drug is also used in combination with bronchodilator medications to treat COPD. This medication is not meant for quick-relief, so use an emergency inhaler, such as albuterol, for sudden breathing problems.

Make sure to always read the patient information and instructions before using this medication. Always follow your doctor’s directions.

• Take this drug by mouth, with or without food.
• Use this drug regularly to get the most benefit from it.
• Daliresp works best if used at evenly spaced intervals.
• Do not increase your dose or stop taking your medication without consulting your doctor.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• About your drug and other allergies.
• If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications.
• If you have a family history of liver disease, cancer, heart disease, current or past infections, mood disorders, unexplained weight loss, immune system disorders.

You should also know:

• Marijuana and alcohol may increase the side effects of dizziness. Talk to your doctor if you regularly consume alcohol or cannabis.
• This drug can be used during pregnancy when clearly needed. It is unknown if it passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor to discuss the risks and benefits of breast-feeding and pregnancy while taking this drug.

Common side effects of Daliresp include but are not limited to:

• Weight loss
• Stomach pain
• Nausea
• Loss of appetite
• Dizziness
• Diarrhea

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of roflumilast .

• Mood disorders (depression, thoughts of suicide)
• Trouble sleeping
• Tremors
• Fast or irregular heartbeat

How long does it take for Daliresp to work?

It may take several weeks of using Daliresp before your symptoms improve. In one study, COPD patients who took Daliresp daily for 4 weeks showed signs of improved breathing when given bronchodilator tests.
