DuoNeb is a prescription medication that is used to treat bronchospasm in people that have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). DuoNeb is a combination medication that contains albuterol and ipratropium and works by relaxing muscles in the airways.

Make sure to always read the patient information and instructions before using this medication. Always follow your doctor’s directions.

• DuoNeb is typically taken four times a day.
• Squeeze all of the medication out of the vial into the nebulizer chamber. Place the mouthpiece into the mouth and turn on the compressor. Slowly breathe in until the chamber is empty and no more mist is produced. Clean the nebulizer after each use.
• You may need regular medical tests while taking this medication.
• Refill your prescription before it expires.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• About your drug and other allergies.
• If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications.
• Your medical history particularly of heart disease, coronary artery disease, heart rhythm disorders, high blood pressure, diabetes, overactive thyroid, liver disease, kidney disease, seizure disorders, glaucoma, enlarged prostate, or urination problems.
• If you are pregnant or planning pregnancy.

You should also know:

• DuoNeb should not be taken by anyone younger than 18.
• Do not breast-feed while taking this medication.
• This medication may affect your reactions or cause blurred vision. Do not drive or operate machinery until you can do so safely.

Common side effects of DuoNeb include but are not limited to:

• Breathing problems
• Headaches
• Cold symptoms including sneezing, cough, sore throat, or stuffy nose

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of DuoNeb:

• Breathing problems including wheezing or choking after using DuoNeb.
• Fast or pounding heartbeats
• Chest pain or fluttering in the chest
• Painful or difficult urination
• Tremors or nervousness
• Eye pain or vision changes including blurred vision, tunnel vision, or seeing halos around lights
• Swelling in the ankles or feet
• Signs of low potassium including increased thirst, increased urination, irregular heartbeats, fluttering in the chest, leg cramps, constipation, numbness, tingling, limp feeling or muscle weakness
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling in your face, lips, or throat

What should I do if I miss a dose of DuoNeb?

If you miss a dose of DuoNeb, you should use it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.

What else is DuoNeb called?

DuoNeb is also known as Combivent UDV internationally. Combivent UDV is the same brand name medication with a different name internationally and is not a generic alternative medication.
