Geodon is an antipsychotic drug that changes chemical actions in the brain. It is used to treat schizophrenia and the manic symptoms of bipolar disorder.

Always follow your doctor’s instructions and use Geodon exactly as prescribed.

• Take Geodon with food.
• Swallow capsule whole. Do not crush, break, or chew.
• Your doctor may do frequent blood tests while you’re using Geodon.

Do not take Geodon if you have long QT syndrome, a heart rhythm disorder, heart failure, or a recent heart attack.

Geodon can cause a heart rhythm disorder when taken with some other drugs. Check with your doctor before you take any other medications.

Before taking Geodon, inform your doctor if you have any of the following:

• Heart problems, heart attack, stroke
• Blood cell or bone marrow disorder
• Seizures
• Liver or kidney disease
• Alzheimer’s
• Low potassium or magnesium
• Diabetes
• Breast cancer

Common side effects of Geodon include:

• Nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach, constipation
• Dizziness or drowsiness
• Tremors
• Rash
• Cough, runny nose
• Restlessness

Contact your doctor if you experience these more serious side effects:

• Signs of an allergic reaction or skin reaction
• Chest pain or pounding heartbeats
• High blood sugar – weight loss, increased thirst and urination, hunger, drowsiness, blurred vision
• Low white cells – fever, chills, sore throat, weakness or ill feeling, red or swollen gums, pain when swallowing
• Feeling light-headed or passing out
• Nervous system reaction – high fever, stiff muscles, rapid or uneven heartbeat, sweating, confusion, agitation
• Uncontrolled muscle movements in face

Can I drink alcohol while taking Geodon?

It’s best to avoid or limit alcohol use while taking Geodon. Drinking can increase side effects like dizziness and drowsiness, and may lead to impaired thinking or judgment.
