Lamisil is a prescription medication that is used to treat infections caused by fungus affecting the fingernails and toenails. Lamisil is an antifungal medication that contains terbinafine. Terbinafine works by stopping the growth of the fungus.

• Lamisil tablets can be taken with or without food.
• Lamisil is typically taken for six weeks for fingernail infections and up to 12 weeks for a toenail infection.
• Use terbinafine for the full amount of time prescribed even if your symptoms have cleared.
• It may take several months after using this medication before your nails return to their normal appearance.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• About your drug and other allergies.
• If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications.
• Your medical history particularly of liver damage, liver disease, liver problems, kidney problems, lupus, or a weak immune system.

You should also know:

• If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, wait until after your pregnancy to use this medication.
• Do not breast-feed while taking terbinafine.
• Avoid caffeine sources such as coffee, tea, and energy drinks while taking Lamisil.
• This medication can make you sunburn more easily. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing while outdoors.
• Avoid tanning beds while taking Lamisil.

Common side effects of Lamisil include but are not limited to:

• Headaches.
• Rash.
• Abnormal liver function tests.
• Stomach pain or upset.
• Diarrhea or gas,
• Nausea.

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of terbinafine.

• Blood in your urine or stools.
• Feeling anxious or restless.
• Depression or a lack of interest in daily activities.
• Sleep problems.
• Weight loss or a loss of appetite.
• Swelling or rapid weight gain.
• Little or no urination.
• Skin sores.
• Unusual bleeding, easy bruising, purple or red spots under your skin or pale skin.
• A butterfly-shaped rash on your cheeks and nose.
• Changes in your taste or smell senses.
• Liver damage symptoms including upper stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice, nausea, vomiting, or tiredness.
• Signs of a serious drug reaction including skin rash, flu-like symptoms, jaundice, fever, swollen glands, muscle aches, severe weakness, or unusual bruising. This may occur several weeks after starting this treatment.
• Signs of a severe skin reaction including fever, skin pain, a red or purple skin rash that spreads, blisters and peels, sore throat, or burning eyes.
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling in your face, lips, or throat.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Lamisil?

If you miss a dose of Lamisil, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.

What is the strength of Lamisil?

Both Lamisil and the generic alternative terbinafine are available in strengths of 250mg.
