Lopid, also known as gemfibrozil, is a medication used in combination with a healthy diet to lower unhealthy fats and raise “good” cholesterol. Gemfibrozil is a “fibrate” which works by decreasing the amount of fat produced by the liver. Lowering fats (triglycerides) in people with high cholesterol levels may decrease your risk of pancreas disease and lower your risk of heart attack and stroke. Exercising, drinking less alcohol, and not smoking also helps lower your risk of these conditions.
Make sure to always read the patient information and instructions before using this medication. Always follow your doctor’s directions.
