Minipress is a prescription medication that is used to treat high blood pressure. Minipress contains the alpha-blocker medication prazosin and works to lower blood pressure by relaxing and widening blood vessels which allows your blood to flow more easily.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• About your drug and other allergies.
• If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications.
• Your medical history particularly of heart problems, kidney disease, prostate cancer, low blood pressure, narcolepsy, cataracts, or glaucoma.
• If you drink alcohol.
• If you are pregnant or planning pregnancy.
• If you are breast-feeding.

You should also know:

• Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this medication.
• Drink plenty of fluids while taking prazosin, especially during hot weather or if you are doing physical activities.
• Minipress may affect the results of some medical tests. Tell all medical testing personnel that you take this medication.
• This medication may affect your thinking or reactions. Do not drive or operate machinery until you can do so safely.

Common side effects of Minipress include but are not limited to:

• Headaches.
• Dizziness.
• Feeling sleepy, tired, or weak.
• Upset stomach.

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of prazosin.

• Shortness of breath.
• Fast or unusual heartbeat.
• Severe dizziness or passing out.
• Blurred vision.
• Depression.
• Swelling in the arms or legs.
• An erection that is painful or lasts for more than four hours.
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling in your face, lips, or throat.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Minipress?

If you miss a dose of Minipress, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.

How long does it take Minipress to work?

It may take several weeks of regular use to feel the full effect of this medication.
