Namenda contains memantine and is used to treat dementia-related to Alzheimer’s disease. Memantine does not cure Alzheimer’s disease but it may improve awareness, memory and the ability to perform daily functions. Namenda blocks the action of the natural substance glutamate in the brain which is linked to the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.

Namenda is also known as Ebixa internationally. Ebixa is the same brand name medication with a different name internationally and is not a generic alternative medication. Generic Namenda is called memantine.
