Norvir is a prescription medication that is used to treat HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). Norvir contains the antiviral drug ritonavir and works by preventing HIV from multiplying within the body. Norvir may be prescribed alone or to be used with other medications. This medication is not a cure for HIV or AIDS.

• Swallow this medication whole without chewing or crushing.

• Do not share needles, razors, or toothbrushes and avoid unprotected sex.

Common side effects of Norvir include but are not limited to:

• Rashes.
• Changes to the shape or location of body fat.
• Feeling weak or tired.
• Nausea or vomiting.
• Stomach pain or diarrhea.
• Numbness or tingling in the hands, feet or around the mouth.

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of ritonavir:

• Irregular heartbeats.
• Trouble swallowing or speaking.
• Balance problems.
• Impotence.
• Menstrual changes.
• Swelling in the throat or neck.
• Feeling lightheaded or like you might pass out.
• Problems with eye movement.
• Weakness or a prickly feeling.
• Signs of a new infection including fever, swollen glands, wheezing, weight loss, diarrhea, cold sores, cough, or night sweats.
• Signs of a liver or pancreas problem including nausea, vomiting, jaundice, dark urine, loss of appetite, or upper stomach pain.
• Signs of high blood sugar including increased thirst, hunger or urination; dry mouth, or fruity breath odor.
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling in your face, lips, or throat.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Norvir?

If you miss a dose of Norvir, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.

Both Norvir and the generic alternative ritonavir are available in strengths of 100mg.
