Patanol Eye Drops treat itching of the eye caused by a condition known as allergic conjunctivitis. This medicine also treats eye itching or redness caused by pollen, ragweed, grass, animal hair, or dander. It works by preventing the effects of certain inflammatory substances, which cells produce in your eyes and sometimes cause allergic reactions.

Use Patanol exactly as your doctor prescribes. To apply the Patanol Eye Drops:

• Wash your hands before using eye medication.
• Tilt your head slightly and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the dropper above the eye and squeeze a drop into this pocket. Close your eyes for 1 or 2 minutes.
• Wait 10 minutes before using any other eye drops your doctor has prescribed.
• Please do not touch the tip of the eye dropper or place it directly on your eye. A contaminated dropper can infect your eye, leading to serious vision problems.
• Do not use the eye drops if the liquid looks cloudy or has changed colors.
• Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Do not freeze. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.

Before taking Patanol Eye Drops, tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• If you are allergic to Patanol, benzalkonium chloride, or other medications,
• You are taking prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products.
• If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
• You should know that you should not wear contact lenses if your eye(s) is/are red.

The common side effects of Patanol Eye Drops include:

• Headache,
• Blurred vision,
• Burning/stinging/redness/dryness of the eye,
• Eyelid swelling or
• A feeling as if something is in your eye may occur. 

A very serious allergic reaction to  Patanol Eye Drops is rare. However, get medical help immediately if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including 

• Rash,
• Itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat),
• Severe dizziness or
• Trouble breathing.

Can you wear contacts while on Patanol Eye Drops?

Do not use Patanol Eye Drops while wearing soft contact lenses. A preservative in this medicine could permanently stain the lenses. Use the medicine for at least 15 minutes before inserting your contact lenses.

Headache, blurred vision, burning of the eye, and eyelid swelling may occur.
