What is Prandin?

Prandin is a prescription medication that is used to control blood sugar levels in adults who have type 2 diabetes. Prandin contains repaglinide and works by causing the pancreas to produce insulin. Prandin is often taken as part of a diabetes treatment program that may also include blood sugar testing, diet, and exercise.

  • Prandin is typically taken between two and four times a day.
  • Take Prandin within 30 minutes of eating a meal. If you skip a meal, do not take Prandin. Wait until your next meal to take your dose.

  • Prandin may be prescribed as part of a treatment plan that can include blood sugar testing, diet, exercise, and weight control.

  • Your medical history particularly of diabetes, liver disease, or diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • If you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. Your dosage may need to be altered each trimester.

  • Repaglinide should not be taken by anyone younger than 18.
  • It is not known if Prandin passes into breast-milk. Do not breast-feed while taking this medication.

Side Effects of Prandin

Common side effects of Prandin include but are not limited to:

  • Low blood sugar.
  • Joint pain.
  • Headaches.
  • Nausea.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Back pain.
  • Cold symptoms including sneezing, sore throat, or stuffy nose.

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of repaglinide.

  • Severe pain in your stomach that spreads to your back.
  • Fast heart rate,
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Dark-colored urine.
  • Fever.
  • Confusion or weakness.
  • Jaundice.
  • Signs of a severe skin reaction including skin pain, fever, sore throat, burning in your eyes, swelling in your face or tongue, or a red or purple rash that spreads and blisters or peels.
  • Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling in your face, lips, or throat.
