What is Relpax?

Relpax is a headache medication containing eletriptan which is used to treat migraines. Relpax should be used to treat headaches which have already begun and will not prevent headaches or reduce the frequency of attacks. Eletriptan works by reducing the substances in the body which can trigger migraine symptoms including headache pain, nausea and sensitivity to light and sound.

Make sure to always read the patient information and instructions before using this medication. Always follow your doctor’s directions.

• Take Relpax orally with or without food at the first sign of a migraine.
• If your symptoms are only partially relieved or if your headache comes back, take another dose after two hours. If there has been no improvement in your symptoms, you should not take another dose, but speak to your doctor.
• If you take medications for migraines on more than ten days each month, Relpax may actually make your headaches worse due to medication overuse headache.
• Do not use Relpax within 24 hours before or after using another migraine medication.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• About your drug and other allergies.
• If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications.
• Your medical history particularly of liver disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart rhythm disorders, diabetes, coronary heart disease, angina, blood circulation problems, lack of blood supply to the heart, heart disease, heart attack, stroke, “mini-stroke”, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome or ischemic bowel disease.
• If you have headaches which seem different from your usual migraine headaches.
• If you have other risk factors for coronary heart disease such as smoking, being overweight, having a family history of coronary artery disease, being an over 40 man or having had a hysterectomy.
• If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breast feeding.

You should also know:

• Relpax should not be used by anyone younger than 18.
• You should not use Relpax within 24 hours before or after using another migraine medication.

Common side effects of Relpax include but are not limited to:

• Drowsiness or tiredness.
• Dizziness.
• Feelings of weakness, numbness or tingling.
• Nausea.

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of eletriptan:

• Cold hands or feet or blue fingers, toes or nails.
• Raised blood pressure.
• An irregular or fast heartbeat.
• Bloody diarrhea.
• Fainting.
• Severe abdominal or stomach pain.
• Serotonin syndrome symptoms including severe dizziness, twitching muscles, unexplained fever, severe dizziness, loss of coordination, fast heartbeat, hallucinations, unusual agitation, restlessness or severe nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
• Stroke symptoms including sudden vision changes, confusion, trouble speaking or weakness on one side of the body.
• Heart attack symptoms including chest, jaw or neck tightness, pain or pressure, shortness of breath or unusual sweating.
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives or swelling in your face, lips or throat.
