Rhinocort AQ Nasal Spray is a prescription medication that is used to treat seasonal and year-round allergies and to prevent nasal polyps from returning. Rhinocort AQ Nasal Spray contains the corticosteroid budesonide. Budesonide works by reducing substances that can cause inflammation and swelling in the nasal passages.

• Prime the nasal spray by pumping eight sprays into the air before using Rhinocort for the first time or if it has not been used in over two weeks.
• Gently blow your nose and shake your nasal spray before using it.
• Insert the tip of Rhinocort into your nostril. Keep your head upright and use your finger to close your other nostril.
• Inhale while spraying the medication into your nostril. Repeat with the other nostril.
• Avoid blowing your nose for a few minutes after using this medication.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• About your drug and other allergies
• If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications
• Your medical history particularly of liver disease, weak immune system, tuberculosis, nasal sores, nasal ulcers, herpes virus of the eyes, cataracts, glaucoma, or a serious bacterial viral or fungal infection.
• If you have recently had nose surgery or a nose injury
• If you are pregnant or planning pregnancy
• If you are breast-feeding. Budesonide can harm a nursing infant

You should also know:

• Corticosteroids such as budesonide may affect growth in children. Monitor children’s growth carefully and speak to your doctor for more information.
• Budesonide can weaken the immune system. Avoid contact with people that are sick or have an infection.

Common side effects of Rhinocort AQ Nasal Spray include but are not limited to:

• Irritation in your nose
• Sore or dry throat
• Coughing
• Sore or white patches in or around the nose
• Irritation, swelling, pain, or burning in the throat

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of budesonide.

• Flu symptoms
• Severe or persistent nosebleeds
• Breathing problems or wheezing
• Nasal sores that do not heal
• Vision problems
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling in your face, lips, or throat

What should I do if I miss a dose of Rhinocort AQ Nasal Spray?

If you miss a dose of Rhinocort AQ Nasal Spray, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.

How long does it take Rhinocort AQ Nasal Spray to work?

It can take two weeks of regular use for this medication to be fully effective.
