Tobrex eye drops are used in the eye to treat eye bacterial infections. It works by killing bacteria.

To apply Tobrex eye drops, wash your hands first. Please do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye or any other surface to avoid contamination. Follow all the directions mentioned in your prescription.

• Tilt your head back, look upward and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch. Hold the dropper directly over your eye and place one drop into the pouch. Look downward and gently close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes. Place one finger at the corner of your eye (near the nose) and apply gentle pressure. It will prevent the medication from draining out. Try not to blink, and do not rub your eye. Repeat these steps for your other eye if directed and if your dose is for more than one drop.
• Do not rinse the dropper. Replace the dropper cap after each use.
• Use Tobrex eye regularly drops to get the most benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same time each day. Continue to use this medication for the full-time prescribed even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection.
• Inform your doctor if your condition lasts or gets worse.

• Tobrex eye drops, prolonged use may result in the overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi. 
• Cross-sensitivity to other aminoglycoside antibiotics may occur; if hypersensitivity develops with this product, discontinue use and institute appropriate therapy.
• Patients should be advised not to wear contact lenses if they have signs and symptoms of ocular infections.
• Pregnancy and Nursing Mothers: check with your doctor.
• Pediatric Use: not for patients below the age of 2 months.

Tobrex eye drops have common side effects, including:

• Tears, eye redness, eye discomfort, or
• Eyelid itching/swelling may occur. 

Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a new fungal eye infection. Please do not use it for longer than prescribed. Contact your doctor if you notice new or worsening symptoms.

What happens if you miss a dose of Tobrex eye drops?

Use the Tobrex eye drops missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.

How are Tobrex eye drops stored?

Keep Tobrex eye drops in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture.

How should you dispose of Tobrex eye drops?

Do not flush Tobrex eye drops down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. 

What side effects can Tobrex eye drops cause?

• eye tearing
• itching, stinging or burning of the eye
• swelling of the eye.
